Narrative Description of Project:

The GoAP had established the Task Force for Pharma to provide a fillip to this high growth potential sector. The Pharma Sector is important to AP, since more than 30% of bulk drug production in the country is from Hyderabad surroundings. These units face a large opportunity created by opening of international markets for off-patent generics. This growth potential called for an immediate location for clean and green manufacturing, which is the encapsulated in the Pharma city formulation.

The project includes developing an industrial estate for Pharmaceutical Industry with a comprehensive infrastructure and utility coverage as well as operational ease. The development is at Parwada, Visakapatnam district, over an avreage of 1800 acres, on land available with APIIC. The critical infrastructure components were defined as environment management (effluent collection, CETP, marine outfall, solid waste and hazardous waste management), central utility provision (power, water, sewerage); logistics support (distri-park, link to port/ airport. In addition, the project would provide for a decentralized park level administration to ease and speed up procedures for approvals, clearances and operations for both international and domestic investors into the Pharma city. Primary/ secondary demand assessment was envisaged through real estate consultants. This assessment would form an important input into the master planning & feasibility process to be undertaken by engineering consultants.

Services Provided:

Demand Assessment and Feasibility: The demand assessment, through Insignia Brooke has shown adequate demand for the project from pharmaceutical firms in India and abroad. The feasibility sets out the viability and cost structures for the project components and also indicates an overall viability. The private sector is provided with the freedom on structuring the project in the ensuing bid process

Procurement of Developer

M/s Ramky Group has been selected as a preferred bidder and incorporated the Ramky Pharma City (India) Limited (RPCIL), a Special Purpose Company to develop the project. APIIC signed the required agreements with them for development of the Project on Build Own & Operate format. The Project is named as Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City and under active implementation.
