Hydro Power

Since independence out of 1,50,000 MW of identified hydro potential only 34,000 MW could be commissioned, majority of which is in the public sector. IIDC has taken a lead role in harnessing hydro power potential for development in private sector under PPP mode.

IIDC has signed joint venture agreements with various State Governments for development of complete valley including integration with Tourism, Fisheries, Drinking Water, development of infrastructure and training the local manpower.

Development process being followed by IIDC is unique which includes identification of potential sites in various valleys, carry out all development activities right from site identification to preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR), Social & Environmental Studies, Land Acquisition, tying up all clearances/approvals etc before offering the project to prospective developer on BOOT basis, to the extent possible minimizing R&R issues. With this approach and ready projects, developers would be more confident to bring in investment in the hydro sector as risks are minimized/ identified and known to bidders prior to start of construction.

IIDC has associated with world known organization like Geological Survey of India, National Institute of Rock Mechanics, Regional Remote Sensing Service Center (RRSSC) Dehradun & International consultants in the field.

IIDC Initiatives in this sector

IIDC started its hydro initiative only in 2006 and in a short period have identified and developed significant potential which were either rejected during earlier studies/ re-structured. Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC, Assam) where there was no power project, 4 small hydro projects were identified/developed, three of them offered to developer for implementation out of which 1 project namely Champamati SHP  (4 MW) has commenced construction.  Presently IIDC is developing projects in Uttarakhand (2000 MW), Assam (50 MW) and Nagaland (200 MW) in India and about 250 MW in Nepal.  IIDC is under process of signing agreement with other states as well as countries in harnessing the hydro potential on fast track mode.

IIDC hydro division is equipped with a team of highly qualified and experienced professional having expertise/experience in various sector of hydro including experience in concept to commissioning of hydro project of any magnitude. Top
